Multi-model ensemble forecasts of smoke aerosol optical depth and surface particulate matter concentrations.
Products on the regional fire and smoke situation including satellite images, weather and air quality observations.
Identification of areas in the region at risk of fires based on prevailing weather conditions.
Dry weather prevailed over most parts of the southern ASEAN region overnight. Scattered hotspots were detected in Kalimantan while few to isolated hotspots were detected elsewhere in the southern ASEAN region. Moderate to dense smoke plumes were observed to emanate from hotspots detected in the southern and eastern parts of Kalimantan, as well as the northern and central parts of Sulawesi. Moderate to dense smoke haze was also observed in the southern parts of Papua. A few air quality stations in Kalimantan and Sulawesi are reporting Unhealthy to Hazardous levels. The smoke haze situation at some parts of the region could not be fully determined due to extensive cloud cover. It was relatively dry over the northern ASEAN region overnight, with some showers over the southern parts of the Mekong sub-region. The hotspot and smoke haze situation in the region remained subdued. In the coming days, dry conditions are expected over parts of the southern ASEAN region, except over Borneo, Java and Peninsular Malaysia where showers are forecast. The hotspot and smoke haze situation may improve in areas experiencing showers but also continue to stay elevated in areas experiencing prolonged periods of dry weather, with a risk of transboundary haze occurrence. The prevailing winds over the southern ASEAN region are forecast to blow from the southeast to west. On the other hand, wet weather is expected to persist over the northern ASEAN region, except for the northern parts of the Mekong sub-region where it is forecast to be relatively drier. Isolated hotspots and smoke plumes may develop in areas facing prolonged dry conditions. The prevailing winds over the northern ASEAN region are forecast to be northeast or southeast.
